Jay picked out a birthday dessert for himself for me to make, from Pierre Herme Desserts by Dorrie Greenspan. It has a brownie type cake on the bottom and a light filling of vanilla pastry cream with whipped cream and cagnac folded into it. The golden raisins were soaked in cognac and scattered about as if they just don't care. It looked lovely with the skinny beeswax candles.
Only Remy declined to eat it.

Happy Birthday Amy! Because yellow is my favorite color, this lemon cake is my favorite, with lemon curd in between the layers and folded into the buttercream.

Jordan requested a giant lego block for his birthday cake this year. He has a group of guys that come over on Saturdays to play brik wars. Brik wars is of course based on fighting, all the little lego guys outfitted with tiny guns and bombs. Fun was had by all.

The poor chickens who laid these 2 eggstra large oeufs! Now that the days are longer, the chickens are laying more. It's eggs for breakfast every day, along with english muffins of course.

I cut some of my marciamallows into ropes as seen in photos from Paris Breakfast blog. They are really cute this way! The Parisian ones are 3euros each, and mine, although shorter I think, would be about $1 based on weight.

After the huge snowstorm on Sunday, it was a pleasure to think about a warm islandy theme.

My friend Kim had a wonderful idea to celebrate her birthday. She gathered 50 special friends, and asked them all to knit a scarf which would then be donated to the shelter for battered women. It was magical to see the wonderful scarves that everyone knit, and to think of the women who will enjoy them.
